On arrival, we will meet you at the airport or your hotel and drive to Menagesha Suba Forest. This forest was originally protected by Emperor Zera Yacob (who reigned from 1399 to 1468) and covers a total area of around 2,500 hectares. The park is home to massive natural trees like Juniperus and Erica Arborea and is a premier destination for a day trip due to its remarkable indigenous tree species. During your walk, you can observe 150 recorded bird species, including five Ethiopian endemics such as the Abyssinian Catbird and the Yellow-fronted Parrot. You may also encounter mammals like the endemic Menelik’s Bushbuck. After a guided nature walk and exploration, you will enjoy a relaxing lunch before driving back to Addis Ababa.

Hotel Pickup & Scenic Drive to Menagesha Forest
Your tour begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Addis Ababa. As you depart the busy capital, the landscape transitions into rolling hills, eucalyptus groves, and local villages. The drive to Menagesha Forest (approx. 30 km) takes about 1 hour, depending on traffic and road conditions.
Along the way, your guide will provide an introduction to the region’s cultural and ecological importance. The drive is scenic, passing through Sululta Plains—a great place to spot traditional cattle herders and rural life.

Guided Nature Hike in Menagesha Suba Forest
On arrival, you’ll be welcomed at the forest entrance by local eco-guides. Menagesha Suba Forest is one of the oldest protected natural areas in Africa, originally established during the reign of Emperor Zera Yacob in the 15th century.
During your 2.5 to 3-hour guided hike, you’ll explore dense indigenous forest filled with Giant juniper trees, Giant lobelia, heather, and Giant ragweed. Some trees are over 400 years old. The trail offers moderate climbs and shaded paths—perfect for nature lovers and birdwatchers.

Visit to Meta Brewery Garden & Waterfall
12:00 PM – 12:30 PM | Rest Break & Sawmill Exploration
After your hike, take a 30-minute rest near a peaceful open clearing. Then explore the abandoned sawmill compound, a now-overgrown site with remnants of Ethiopia’s early forest industry. The rustic structures and machinery provide a rare glimpse into the region’s timber-processing history.

Lunch Break at a Local Restaurant or Picnic
Enjoy a leisurely lunch. Depending on your preference, your guide can take you to a nearby traditional Ethiopian restaurant or prepare a picnic lunch in a shaded forest area.

This break also allows time to relax, journal, or take photographs of the forest surroundings.
After lunch, head to the nearby Meta Abo Brewery, one of Ethiopia’s oldest breweries. Walk through its green outdoor space and enjoy a fresh Meta Beer or local drink under large shady trees. This stop offers a laid-back setting to wind down after your forest adventure.
Then take a short walk to a nearby waterfall, where you can enjoy the sound of rushing water and take great photos. Depending on the season, the water flow and greenery can be particularly stunning.

Return to Addis Ababa
With your heart full and spirit refreshed, begin the drive back to Addis Ababa. The return trip offers another chance to enjoy the countryside views. You’ll arrive back in the city around 3:30 PM, with drop-off at your hotel or designated point.
