Watching the lava lake at Erta Ale was breathtaking and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. The experience is raw and adventurous, and it gives you a deep appreciation for nature’s power.

That said, this is not an easy trip. The heat is extreme, accommodations are very basic, and the journey can be physically demanding. But if you’re prepared, it is absolutely worth it.
